The power of exclusivity: Trapasso has developed a strong position in a niche few people even know exists: creating incentive programs for casinos. Locomotive has established exclusive relationships with makers of high-end brands such as Burberry, Baccarat and Gucci that are eager to gain inroads with casinos’ high-rolling clientele. Trapasso’s firm uses these swanky goods—which the makers provide at “close to wholesale cost,” she says—to create customer-loyalty programs, VIP rewards and other promotions for Locomotive’s casino clients. The casinos, in turn, use them as perks for their top gamblers or as lures for new customers. Trapasso’s key challenge is simple: “to negotiate the lowest possible pricing with our brand-name partners.” And since Locomotive’s deals are exclusive, she says, “casinos can’t get these products elsewhere.”
