The boom in endurance sports, such as marathons, road cycling and triathlons, is creating a need for smart auxiliary services at event venues, which are packed with well- heeled athletes and their families, pumped and ready to spend. Mihira Lakshman, editor of Canadian Running magazine, suggests finding ways to improve the “race experience,” such as offering apps that let racers compare their performance to peers. Better still, cater to more basic needs, such as providing daycare for bored kids or shuttle services for family members along the course.
