Most small companies (perhaps including yours?) are slackers when it comes to protecting themselves from digital threats. More than three-quarters of respondents to a recent survey confidently reported that their companies are safe from hackers, viruses, malware and other cybersecurity breaches—yet 69% admitted they don’t have even an informal cybersecurity policy for employees, let alone specific guidelines around issues like privacy or social media. (The study, by Symantec and the National Cyber Security Alliance, was done in the U.S., but likely reflects a similar picture here.)
